Fort Campbell, KY – Fort Campbell’s office of Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) once again helped area families celebrate July 4th in style, with the return of its ever-popular Independence Week Carnival, July 2nd–6th, which includes a special concert and fireworks display on Independence day.
The event, which is free and open to the public, was staged on Fort Campbell’s Division Parade Field. Thousands were in attendance on July 4th, a day that saw storms early, but clear weather for the evening’s concerts and fireworks.
The carnival opened at 1:00pm Belle City Amusements has been providing the carnival experience at Fort Campbell’s Independence Week for several years.
Dozens of rides were set up, including several for the kids. The midway also included a variety of games, great food, from pizza to popcorn to funnel cakes, and much more.
By 5:00pm the area in front of the stage was filling up, as military and civilian families claimed their preferred listening/viewing locations with blankets and lawn chairs, and the music began as The 101st Airborne Division Band opened the show. Both sides of the stage were lined with food trucks, vendors and event sponsors. MWR handed out free glow sticks and patriotic fans.
Major General Brian E. Winski, Commanding General, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), welcomed everyone in a 6:00pm ceremony that included the firing of canons, one round for each of the fifty states.
Clayton Quisenberry was next to perform. He made his return to the Fort Campbell stage after opening there for Hunter Hayes in 2018. He was followed by this year’s headliner, The Downtown Band from Nashville Tennessee.
The Downtown Band was recently voted “Best Live Band in Tennessee”, and “Top 10 Best Party Band in the United States”, at the Industry Expert Awards. The 10-piece dance band brought great talent and energy to the stage, with a play-list that ranged from Stevie Wonder to Bruno Mars and everything in between.
The fireworks display took place at 9:30pm, thanks to cooperative weather, the crowd enjoyed clear skies, and a stunning 22-minute fireworks show choreographed to music.
