Montgomery County, TN – On Thursday, August 1st, 2019, the Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Airport was honored as the latest Green Certified organization. A green ribbon cutting was held to celebrate the achievement and to welcome the Airport to the Green Certification Program.
The Airport is the 122nd organization to complete the Green Certification Program requirements. The green ribbon cutting was attended by Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts, City of Clarksville Chief of Staff James Halford Jr., Green Certification Program Manager Carlye Sommers, and Green Certification Program Board Members Doug Jones (Montgomery County) and Haley Randell (APSU).
Airport Manager, John Patterson, told attendees that prior to beginning the Green Certification process the Airport had some sustainable practices in place, including the solar panel array located on the roof of the main building.
By completing the Green Certification Program, they have expanded those practices and have a list of priorities for the future.
Business Development Manager Josh Vaughn attended the Green Certification workshop series in late 2018 and created an environmental policy and plan for the Airport. Patterson said, “Josh brought back a list of ideas from the workshop, things we could do differently and ideas we could implement”.
In the Airport’s main building occupancy sensors have been installed in the offices and the facility staff are working to convert to LED lighting. Water use is minimized with low flow bathroom fixtures and a priority for the future is to transition away from single use cups in the meeting areas. The Airport’s new runway, which officially opened in June, is lit with LED lights that improve visibility for pilots and save on energy costs.
These items are key to the Airport promoting its sustainability to the public as well as to its employees and tenants, which now includes the Austin Peay State University Rotary Wing Flight School.
Vaughn said, “We have meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 100 people and various events throughout the year that bring even larger numbers to the Airport. We want to demonstrate that we have a sustainable facility that enhances our natural environment while reducing impacts.”
The Airport is located on Outlaw Field Road and offers general aviation services to both local and transit users. At this time, the Airport does not offer commercial flights, but charter flights can be arranged.
