U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn has busy week in Tennessee

U.S. SenateWashington, D.C. – The U.S. Senate may be out of session, but Senator Marsha Blackburn hasn’t slowed down one bit! The Senator is spending August in Tennessee meeting with the people she serves and working to determine what she can do in the Senate to make each day better for her state.

Her state visits began in West Tennessee, where she met with fishermen and local officials at Sinclair’s Fish Market in Paris to discuss the problems posed by Asian carp. Senator Blackburn then stopped by UT Martin to meet with Chancellor Keith Carver and members of their Army ROTC program.

Senator Blackburn’s last West Tennessee stop was at McKenzie’s 150th Birthday Celebration, where she spoke at a Women’s Suffrage event to honor the Volunteer State’s storied history surrounding the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment.

The Senator then made her way over to Middle Tennessee, with visits to Tutco Manufacturing in Cookeville and LifePoint in Livingston.

She also met with local elected officials in Overton County and Jackson County to hear how she can best support them and address their concerns.

Back in Nashville, Senator Blackburn had several meetings with healthcare providers, including the Healthcare Leadership Council, Faith Family Medical Center and Cigna. These meetings follow the introduction of the Senator’s Rural Health Agenda to tackle the challenges presented by rural hospital closures.

On Wednesday, the Senator met with officials from Robertson County and Montgomery County.

She finished the day by speaking at Austin Peay State University’s military and graduate recognition ceremony and coin presentation.

On Thursday morning, Senator Blackburn spoke at the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation’s Annual Presidents Conference. She discussed some of the key issues being addressed in Washington of interest to Tennessee’s farmers, including rural regulatory reform, the USMCA Agreement, trade with China and agricultural labor.

Our current economic expansion is the longest on record and the Volunteer State is reaping the benefits of that growth. Senator Blackburn shared that since the implementation of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was implemented, American businesses have added 3 million new jobs, including 60,000 in Tennessee.

On Friday morning, the Senator visited MARS headquarters in Franklin to provide an update on legislation that affects Tennessee businesses.

Senator Marco Rubio of Florida joined Senator Blackburn for her last stop of the week. The two Senators visited the GM plant in Spring Hill on Friday for an overview of operations and to speak with Ken Knight, the plant’s executive director. In January, GM announced it would invest $22 million at its Spring Hill location to build 6.2L V-8 engines.

That’s a wrap on Senator Blackburn’s week in the state! More to come as the Senator continues to meet with Tennesseans throughout the August work period.
