It teaches citizens how to help themselves by identifying and reporting suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

Neighborhood Watch groups typically focus on observation and awareness as a means of preventing crime and utilizing strategies that range from simply promoting social interaction to “watching out for each other”.

Neighborhood Watch provides an opportunity for citizens to help in the fight against crime and also facilitates neighborhoods bonding together through service. The theory behind neighborhood watch is fairly simplistic–the personal investment of community members in their own neighborhood watch programs can decrease opportunities for criminals to commit crimes.

The Neighborhood Watch Program draws upon the compassion of average citizens, asking them to lend their neighbors a hand.
