APSU Football’s Jeremiah Oatsvall named to CFPA Performer of the Year preseason watch list

APSU FootballCharleston, S.C. – Austin Peay State University (APSU) football junior quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall is one of 40 players to earn a spot on the 2019 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS National Performer of the Year preseason watch list, released Tuesday, August 14th, 2019.

Oatsvall enters his junior campaign already in the conversation for greatest signal-caller in Austin Peay State University history.

He ranks in the programs top-10 in all-time pass efficiency (first, 139.9), yards per pass (first, 8.1 ypp), quarterback rushing touchdowns (second, 12), passing touchdowns (third, 27), completion percentage (third, 53.8 percent), yards per completion (third, 15.1 ypc), quarterback rushing yards (third, 970 yards), passing yards per game (sixth, 120.8), passing yards (eighth, 2,779 yards) and completions (ninth, 184).

Two more seasons of production near his 2017 OVC Freshman of the Year levels will put several long-held passing marks out of reach.

Oatsvall is one of three Ohio Valley Conference quarterbacks to earn a spot on the CFPA watch list, joined by Jacksonville State’s Zerrick Cooper and Southeast Missouri’s Daniel Santacaterina.

Oatsvall is the first Gov to earn a spot on the CFPA National Performer of the Year preseason watch list, and is the first Gov to be mentioned on any CFPA watch list since Otis Gerron (Freshman Performer of the Year, 2014).

“I don’t want to harp too much on preseason stuff, because things can get pretty shaken up by the end of the year,” Oatsvall said. “It depends on how we work. All the credit goes to the team and coaching staff, because without them I can’t do what I do. Hopefully by the end of the season, if I’ve worked hard enough and done the best I can by my teammates, it’s not just a preseason honor.”

The 2019 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy is a 22-inch K-9 optic crystal tower with eight-inch crystal football on top. All FCS players are eligible for the award. The award winner will be announced January 15th, 2020.
