APSU Women’s Tennis announces 2019-2020 Schedule, look to defend OVC Title

APSU Women's TennisClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) tennis coach Ross Brown has announced the 2019-20 women’s schedule.

“Coming off the best year in our women’s tennis history, we face strong nonconference teams at the start of our season,” said Brown.

“This will place us in a good standing to play improved conference opponents this season. Our women’s team will play Murray State in the final home conference match of the season, and I’m sure that will be an important match,” Brown stated.

The Governors kick off the fall portion of their schedule when they host the APSU Fall Invitational, September 13th-14th. The Govs then make their first of two trips to Conway, Arkansas, when they compete in the UCA Fall Classic (September 27th-28th). The Govs wrap up 2019 with a trip to Murfreesboro, where they will compete in the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals (October 17th-22th).

The spring portion of the schedule begins when the Govs host Chattanooga (January 20th). Then another trip to Conway, Arkansas, where thee Govs will take on Central Arkansas (January 24th) and Louisiana-Monroe (January 25th).

The Govs stay on the road to begin February, when they travel to Western Kentucky (February 1st). The Govs close out a five-match road stretch when they travel to Dayton, Ohio, for matches against Dayton (February 7th) and Wright State (February 8th). The Governors finally return home where will they host in-state foes Cumberland (February 11th) and Carson Newman (February 14th).

The Govs take on their only opponent from a Power Five conference when they travel to Louisville (February 21st). Immediately after the trip to Louisville, North Alabama (February 22nd) and Middle Tennessee (February 23rd) come to Clarksville to complete a busy weekend for the Governors. Finally, February ends when the Govs take on IUPUI (February 28th) in Indianapolis.

Ohio Valley Conference play starts for the Govs in March, and things get started with a trip to Nashville to take on Tennessee State (March 14th). Jacksonville State (March 20th) visits Clarksville next, before the Govs head back on the road to take on Southeast Missouri (March 27th) and UT Martin (March 28th).

April starts with Eastern Illinois (April 3rd) and SIU Edwardsville (April 4th) visiting to Clarksville to take on the Govs. The Govs then head back to Nashville, this time to take on Belmont (April 7th), before returning home for a final home match against Murray State (April 10th) in a Heritage Bank Battle of the Border matchup.

The Austin Peay women will have a chance to defend their title at the OVC Women’s Tennis Championship (April 17th-19th) which will be held at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro. At the OVC Championship, the Govs will be looking to advance to the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship (May 14th-23rd) for a second straight season.
