The flashing school zone signs will become operational on Monday, September 9th, 2019.

The 20 mph speed limit in the designated area on both sides of the divided highway will be in effect from 7:30am-8:30am and from 2:30pm-3:30pm Monday through Friday. The posted speed limit on the roadway at other times of the day is 50 mph.

Starting Tuesday, September 3rd, digital message boards will be running all week along Martin Luther King Jr.  Parkway/SR 76 to help people get ready for the school zone changes.

“As Clarksville Christian School has grown, it has become necessary to create a school zone to calm traffic on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway on weekdays,” Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts said.

“I urge everyone who travels this roadway to pay attention to these changes, slow down at the designated times and do their part to make it safer to enter and leave the school area,” stated Mayor Pitts.

Clarksville Christian School is participating in the cost of the equipment, Mayor Pitts said.

Clarksville Police will place extra patrols in the area as the school zone becomes operational, and the Street Department will be monitoring traffic and may adjust the school zone timing after studying how traffic is affected by the changes.
