United Way Asks the Community “What’s Your Why?”

United Way Of Greater ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – For the love of community, United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region launched their 2019 – 2020 campaign at the Roxy Regional Theatre on August 28th.

In the campaign spirit, United Way CEO Valerie Guzman asked the crowd what their why was? “We all have a reason why we do what we do,” said Guzman.

“Why do you give back to those in need? Why do you advocate for community change? Why do you volunteer at local organizations? When we find our why our purpose becomes stronger, our vision clearer, and our impact bigger.”

United Way’s reason why is for the love of community. Because of their community-focused work, United Way strengthens education, health, and financial stability in the Greater Clarksville Region.

First Ladies Mary Durrett and Cynthia Pitts have joined the movement as United Way’s Campaign Chairs for the year.

“It’s an honor to serve the community in this role with Mary,” said Pitts. “I know the community will join forces to bring a renewed hope for families in our community.”

When you invest in United Way, you are investing in our community, said Durrett. And that investment makes our community better, stronger and brighter.

United Way revealed their 2019 – 2020 campaign goal of $1.5 million dollars.

“We want to give our partner agencies all the funding they requested,” said Guzman. “I do not want to give them just a portion, I want to give them the whole amount. We’ve added up the numbers, and to fully fund our agencies’ requests, we need that $1.5 million.”

United Way has over 30 different partner agencies programs, ranging from Nurses for Newborns and Meals-on-Wheels to Progressive Directions and Urban Ministries. United Way provides funding to each agency, advocates on their behalf, and supplies volunteer support.

United Way not only strives to strengthen their partner agencies’ work, the organization also has programs of their own. Read United, Lead United, and ENGAGE are additional programs the organization offers to the community.

“We desire to be more than a pass through of money,” said United Way Community Engagement Director Sarah Wood. “We want to play an active role in meeting the needs of the community. We are increasing student literacy, developing future leaders, and empowering individuals to be a part of addressing community needs.”

For the love of community…that’s our why, said Tom Kane, United Way President and CEO of Fortera Credit Union. Together, we can be a part of vital change and growth in the Greater Clarksville Region. Join the movement and live united.
