Emmaculate Kiplagat secured a top-15 finish for the Governors after she placed 14th and timed 19:54.6. Molly Howard finished with another top-30 finish for the Govs as she posted 20:58.2 and placed 29th.

The duo of Mikaela Smith and Sara Martin finished just four spots after Howard, with Smith placing 33rd (21:24.8) and Martin timing less than a second behind Smith at 21:25.8 (34th).

Five of the remaining Govs finished in a tight group, with five Govs accounting for six places. The first Governor to cross out of the group was sophomore Larin Harr as she posted 22:21.3 (41st).

Lexie Nicholas was the second runner to cross the finish line and placed 43rd with the 22:26.1. Three seconds later, junior Keleah Shell clocked a time of 22:29.3 (44th). Sophia Wilson finished less than a second after Shell, timing in at 22:29.9 (45th). The final Governor to cross the line was Alura Endres with the time of 22:33.5 and placed 46th.

The effort was shown this evening with the young core of the Governors, but head coach Valerie Brown wanted this meet to be a stepping stone for later on in the OVC Championships.

“The goal right now is to make sure we are at our very best for the OVC Championships,” Brown said. “Taking in the consideration in what we learned from this meet. Being familiar with the course and being aggressive throughout the race. Specifically attacking those hills will better prepare us for a better team standing and individual times when we get back here in November.”

The Governors battled with six different teams, with OVC foe UT Martin coming out on top.

Austin Peay will head home to host the APSU Cross Country Festival, September 21st.
