APSU Women’s Golf to play in Morehead State Greenbrier Invitational

APSU Women's GolfClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s golf team has a short turnaround from last week’s season-opener, with the Govs looking to get back to work at the Morehead State Greenbrier Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky at Greenbrier Country Club.

The course, measuring at 5,961 yards, will host Morehead State’s fall tournament for the second year in a row. Six schools return from that maiden voyage—three from the Ohio Valley Conference in Morehead State, Austin Peay and Belmont, plus UNC Asheville, Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

Joining the fun this season will be UIC, Lipscomb and league foes Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech.

Three of the Austin Peay participants in this year’s lineup also saw the course in 2018. Chief among them, and one of the main catalyst’s for the Governors runner-up showing a year ago, was Taylor Dedmen. In just her second tournament, the Plant City, Florida native turned in a top-five finish with a 229, with her final-round 73 tying for the second-best mark over the final 18 holes.

Shelby Darnell also turned in a top-20 at this event last season, while Meghann Stamps just missed a top-20 of her own. That trio will occupy the No. 1 (Dedmen), No. 2 (Stamps) and No. 4 (Darnell) spots in the Austin Peay lineup to start the week.

Juniors Riley Cooper and Andrea Presilla will round out the Austin Peay lineup this week as the Govs bring the same five to Lexington that visited Springfield, Missouri, last week.

“Last week, we played against some bigger schools we hardly ever see, but this week there will be a handful of OVC teams in the field so we’ll be able to get a sense of our competition and show that we’re here to compete,” head coach Jessica Cathey said.

“Last week, each player was right around their 2018-19 scoring average, but we are looking to improve and go even lower this week. It helps that three of our five girls saw this course last year,” stated Cathey.

The Govs will pair with Tennessee State and UNC Asheville to begin their stay in Lexington. While there will be no live scoring for the event, a complete recap and stats will be available via LetsGoPeay.com at the conclusion of each day of play.
