Commissioner Courtney Rogers of the Tennessee Department of Veterans Services will be the keynote speaker at the event, which is part of the Welcome Home Veterans Celebration under way in Clarksville this week. Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts and other dignitaries will also take part in the ceremony.

The memorial, which was funded by an anonymous donor, has been installed by the City of Clarksville in cooperation with the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs and the National Garden Clubs. For more than 70 years, the garden clubs have conducted the Blue Star Memorial Program to recognize the heroes who have served in America’s Armed Forces. In 2016, National Garden Clubs enacted the Gold Star Families Memorial Marker Program, as an adjunct program to the NGC Blue Star Memorial Markers Program.

The Veterans Plaza Gold Star Memorial Marker will be the fourth one dedicated in Tennessee.

The Welcome Home Veterans Celebration, organized by Visit Clarksville, runs September 18th-22nd and includes banquets, concerts, the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Wall, Traveling Korean War Memorial, 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit and the 5th Annual Welcome Home Parade.
