Howard uplifts Govs in APSU Invitational

APSU Women's Cross CountryClarksville, Tn –-Seven of eight runners for Austin Peay State University women’s cross country finished in the top-25 as the Govs hosted the 2019 APSU Cross Country Invitational on this Saturday morning at the Eastland Green Nine South.

Molly Howard led the way for Governors posting a top-10 finish with a time of 19:13.21 (10th). Senior Emmaculate Kiplagat was just three spots behind Howard with a 13th place finish and a time of 19:32.01.

The trio of Sara Martin, Keleah Shell, and Mikaela Smith all came in sequential order to the finish line. Sara Martin crossed the finish line at 19:43.33 and placed 18th. Shell was just under ten seconds behind, placing 19th with a time of 19:53.25. Mikaela Smith completed the trio posting a time of 20:00.72 (20th).   

 Larin Harr was next for the Govs and finished just ten seconds after Smith, with a time of 20:10.75 and placing 24th. Alura Endres rounded out the top-25 posting a time of 20:11.54. Even though she did not finish in the top-25, Madison Morstad competed in her first full race of the season after being injured in the race at Belmont.  Morstad finished 33rd with the time of 20:51.89.

“I had a conversation with Molly before the meet,” stated head coach Valerie Brown. “Molly did exactly what we talked about with good execution and was ultimately a leader for us today. She deserved the success she had today because she worked for and she looked great doing it.”

Six out of the eight runners from today finished with personal best. “All of our women across the team looked great today,” stated Coach Brown.

Austin Peay will head to Kentucky Wesleyan to run in the Fast Cats Classic on Oct. 12th.
