House was selected as the Director-At-Large for the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents (TOSS); and, Tennessee Education Commissioner Dr. Penny Schwinn appointed House to serve as one of 12 Fellows to participate in the Coherence Lab Fellowship, a group that helps leaders from the state, district and school level create a more coherent and equitable education system.

“These opportunities are reflective of the student-focused and innovative work happening in CMCSS by administrators and teachers,” said House. “I am honored by the trust of Tennessee’s school directors and grateful for the opportunity our Education Commissioner is providing to enhance our strategic approach for student success.”

The Coherence Lab Fellowship is a part of the Aspen Institute Education and Society Program, Council of Chief State School Officers and Education First. Tennessee is one of four states selected as part of the second group to participate in the 18-month process, which is designed to remove barriers to collaboration, test and pilot new structures for educator engagement in decision-making, and gain knowledge and strategies to engage stakeholders. The Fellowship is funded with support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

“Clarksville-Montgomery County has led the way when it comes to the establishment of a Grow-Your-Own model designed to enhance teacher recruitment, retention and leadership,” according to Commissioner Schwinn. “Director House’s innovative approach is something the state is looking closely at, which is why I’m thrilled he’s agreed to contribute to this conversation moving forward.”

“This is an exceptional learning opportunity for each state’s team of 12 executives from the state education agency (SEA) and local education agencies (LEAs) to apply practical ideas and use tools to create more coherence,” according to Conference Lab Fellowship materials.
