The last time the Governors made the trek to Conway, Arkansas, was during the spring season of 2017-18, dropping a dual match 3-4. Last season the Bears came to Clarksville, falling 6-1 and becoming one of the victims in the Governors undefeated regular season.

At the APSU Fall Invitational, two Governors won their singles flight, and a pair of Govs won their doubles flight.

Senior Fabienne Schmidt and sophomore Martina Paladini-Jennings each won their singles flight in the season opener. Schmidt and Danielle Morris continued their success together, running the table to win their doubles flight after going 9-2 together in 2018-19.

The Governor’s lone senior Ana Albertson will also look to build on a successful first tournament that saw her advance to the semifinals of her flight, before dropping a marathon match to the eventual runner-up. Aleks Topalovic and Sarah Heckel each made their Austin Peay State University debut at the home tournament.

Topalovic won her first match as a Governor, before dropping her second. Topalovic paired with Paladini-Jennings to form an all-England duo that advanced to the semifinals of their doubles flight.

The UCA Fall Classic will kick off at noon on Friday, starting with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. Saturday will begin at 9:00am with a single round of doubles play, and then the final two singles rounds. Draws for the tournament will be released later tonight.

After the trip to Conway, Arkansas, the Governors will take a couple weeks off before competing in the Ohio Valley Regionals, October 17th-22nd, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

The Ohio Valley Regionals will wrap up the fall slate for the Governors, who will then begin to prepare for the spring dual portion of the schedule, which will kick off January 20th against Chattanooga in Clarksville.
