Austin Peay State University College of Business sending students to Argentina next summer

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Next summer (or winter, since we’re talking about the southern hemisphere) a group of Austin Peay State University (APSU) students will get an intimate look at global business practices during the APSU College of Business’ inaugural study abroad trip to Rosario, Argentina.

“Some of our business students have never been out of the country, never been on a plane, so going to Argentina provides them with the opportunity to experience a culture outside of Clarksville,” Dr. Brandon Di Paolo Harrison, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of accounting, said.

“Rosario is one of the world’s top producers in manufactured products, and it’s the largest port city in Argentina, so we’ll tour the port and see the influence that it has economically,” stated Harrison.

Students will spend a month in Argentina, from May 12th-June 13th, taking courses such as international accounting and global business. While earning credit hours toward their degree, students will also develop the skills they’ll need for entering a global workforce.

“We’re going to visit companies such as PepsiCo Argentina to show opportunities to students, so that when they graduate our APSU CoB students could better understand how to function within an international business environment,” Di Paolo Harrison said.

“We’ll take them out and go to industries, practicing what they are learning in the classroom. I want students to have a practical application of the abstract concepts covered in our courses. This is vital in forming well-rounded professionals… and it’s a break from the Euro-centrism, allowing them to see the importance of global economies as a whole. Furthermore, students don’t have to know Spanish to be exposed to this opportunity in our college,” stated Harrison.

The University’s strategic plan calls for providing “APSU students with the international perspective they’ll need to thrive in the 21st century workforce,” and the University’s College of Business is making sure there is no obstacle in their way from gaining this perspective.

“We’ve identified several scholarship opportunities for students,” Di Paolo Harrison said. “Dean (Mickey) Hepner is so supportive that he is offering additional scholarships through the college.”

Students will also learn more about the country’s culture, with excursions to places such as Argentina’s famed Patagonia region and neighboring countries.
