Austin Peay State University Volleyball falls at home to Southeast Missouri

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) volleyball team put together its best defensive night in 13 seasons but was edged in five sets (21-25, 27-29, 25-20, 29-27, 13-15) by Southeast Missouri’s 21-block performance in Friday Ohio Valley Conference action at the Dunn Center.

Austin Peay State University (4-12, 2-1 OVC) rallied from a two-set deficit to force a tiebreaker fifth set.

In the fifth, the Govs led 8-7 at the crossover but Southeast Missouri rallied with six of the next nine points to take a 13-11 lead. Austin Peay State University tied the fifth set at 14-14 on a block by Tegan Seyring and Karli Graham but the Redhawks scored the final two points, closing with their final block.

The Govs recorded 123 digs on the evening, the most in a single-match since the 2006 season. Senior Ginny Gerig Busse finished with a career-high 46 digs on the night. The APSU Governors also had 11 blocks, one shy of their season high, and a season-best 73 kills.

Southeast Missouri (10-7, 2-1 OVC) saw junior Maggie Davis finish with 10 blocks to lead its 21-block performance. The Redhawks also had 94 digs, freshman Tara Beilsmith leading that effort with a 26-dig outing.
