APSU Women’s Golf hits the road for Chris Banister Classic

The two-day, 54-hole event begins with an 8:00am shotgun start, Monday, October 7th at Silver Lakes Golf Course along the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

With its proximity both to the league at large and similarity as an RTJ course to the site of the 2020 Ohio Valley Conference Golf Championships at Hampton Cove Golf Course in Owens Cross Roads, this tournament will feature a bevy of OVC schools, with Murray State, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech joining the Govs and Gamecocks for this event.

Also scheduled to compete are Alabama State, Elon, James Madison, Troy, UALR and North Alabama.

Although the order will change, the same five Govs will appear in this week’s lineup for head coach Jessica Cathey, starting with sophomore Taylor Dedmen in the No. 1 spot; she’s been Austin Peay’s top finisher in two of its first three tournaments, including a top-five showing last week at the 2019 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, and has yet to finish lower than 21st this season.

Last season, Dedmen made a little history as the first Gov since 2006-07 (Staci Lynch) with three straight top-20 finishes. She led the Govs to a third-place team finish at 945 (313-312-320).

After her first career top-10 finish last week, junior Riley Cooper slots in as the No. 2 player for the Govs this week. Senior Meghann Stamps looks to make it three straight top-10 finishes after taking 10th at the home meet and third at Morehead State’s home tournament back on Sept. 17.

Rounding out the lineup for the Govs will be sophomore Shelby Darnell and junior Andrea Presilla. Darnell is also on a streak of back-to-back top-10 finishes, while Presilla made her 2018 debut at this event.

There will be no live scoring for this event; a complete recap and stat component will be available at the conclusion of each day at LetsGoPeay.com.
