Fort Campbell, KY – On Wednesday, October 16th, 2019, Blanchfield Army Community Hospital’s Perinatal Bereavement Nurses and Chaplain are organizing a remembrance ceremony at 10:00am for patients, family members, and staff members who have experienced a loss during a pregnancy or the loss of a baby or child.
“Footprints on the Heart” is an annual event on the lawn outside the “A” entrance of the hospital for families who have lost a baby through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, intrauterine fetal demise, stillborn or infant death. This special day is focused on remembrance and healing.
“It’s an opportunity to remember the life that we’ve only had for a short time in our life and to support others who have shared a similar experience,” said Chaplain (Maj.) Todd Morrison, BACH Department of Ministry and Pastoral Care chief.
“In the past, we rarely talked about pregnancy and infant loss, and for years people suffered alone. Recognition of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month this event allows this subject to be brought into the spotlight and for families to grieve their losses publicly as well as privately. This awareness helps bereaved individuals know they are never alone too,” Morrison stated.
Other supporters, including friends, neighbors and extended family are also encouraged to attend and participate in this community remembrance. The event will feature guest speaker, Henry Moore, who will share what he and his wife, Sharee, experienced.
Through their personal journey, blog, and book, they have touched many families who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss.
Remembrance activities are planned for everyone to partake in, and bubbles will be offered for those who wish to send bubble wishes in memory of their baby or child.
The event will also allow families to connect with others who have shared their experience and grief. The event will culminate with a remembrance walk around BACH’s wellness track for a time of reflection and unity.
“Footprints on the Heart” begins at 10:00am on the lawn in front of the hospital’s “A” entrance. In case of inclement weather, the event will move to Liberty Chapel. The event is open for affected families and any members of the community who wish to show their support.
