Nashville, TN – In Week 14 of the 2016 season, the Tennessee Titans won their third-consecutive home game for the first time since the 2009 season with a 13-10 victory over the defending Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos at Nissan Stadium.
The run game for both teams proved to be the difference, as the Titans accumulated 180 yards on the ground and the Tennessee defense contained Denver to just 18 rushing yards—the fifth-lowest rushing yardage total allowed by the defense in franchise history.
Running back DeMarco Murray led the team with 92 yards on 21 carries. He also gave the Titans their lone touchdown of the day with a one-yard run to cap Tennessee’s first offensive drive of the game with 7:29 remaining in the first quarter.
On the very next drive, safety Rashad Johnson forced Broncos running back Justin Forsett to fumble and cornerback Jason McCourty recovered the ball, setting up a 53-yard field goal by kicker Ryan Succop. The defensive takeaway marked the Titans’ first forced fumble of the 2016 season.
Succop added another field goal, this time from 41 yards out, to give the Titans a 13-0 halftime lead at the end of a season-best, 19-play, 74-yard drive spanning 8:04.
Although the Broncos made a second-half rally with a three-yard touchdown from Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian to Broncos receiver Emmanuel Sanders and a 34-yard field goal from Brandon McManus in the fourth quarter, the Tennessee defense held up to preserve the Titans’ lead. With 1:04 remaining in the game and the Broncos driving, linebacker Avery Williamson forced an A.J. Derby fumble that was recovered by safety Daimion Stafford to ice the game and keep Tennessee in a tie for first place in the AFC South.
