APSU Men’s Cross Country wraps up regular season at Murray State Open

APSU Men's Cross CountryMurray, KY – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s cross country team wrapped up its 2019 regular season across the border at the Murray State Open, Friday evening.

Thomas Porter lead the way for the Governors in the eight-kilometer race with another top-15 finish after he timed 28:05.5 (13th). Hezron Kiptoo was only five spots behind Porter, finishing in 28:45.9 to place 18th.

Nash Young just missed being in the top-20 by 0.2 of a second when he timed 28:58.5 and finished 21st. Ryan Martin was next for the Governors after he placed 29th with a time of 29:35.9. Joseph Redman crossed the finish line next for the Govs when he finished 33rd with the time of 30:14.6.

William Norris finished only two spots from Redman, and Norris finished with the time of 30:53.6 (35th). The duo of Elliot Reed and Andrew Abel finished in sequential order to round off points for the Govs. Reed finished first between the two when he clocked 31:12.1, and Abel timed 34:23.3 (37th and 38th).

“This course was tough,” said head coach Valerie Brown. “It has huge hills and a lot of them. The team responded well to the challenge in preparation for the OVC meet. To see the team’s heart being displayed today was what we wanted. The next two weeks are going to be big for us to keep everyone healthy and get in a good place mentally.”

Next Up For APSU Men’s Cross Country

The APSU Governors will prepare for the Ohio Valley Conference Championship, November 2nd in Edwardsville, Illinois.
