Murfreesboro, TN – On the third day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regional, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) women tennis’ Aleks Topalovic fell in the Flight B Singles final, Saturday, at the Adams Tennis Complex.
Topalovic continued her run through the Flight B Singles Draw, beating Chattanooga’s fifth-seeded Polina Goloputova, 6-3 3-6 7-5, to advance to the finals. In the finals, Topalovic fell to Xavier’s Kaitilin Ruether, 6-1 6-4.
The Governors top duo of Fabienne Schmidt and Danielle Morris fell in the quarterfinals of the Doubles Main Draw to the second-seeded Kentucky Wildcats tandem of Akvil? Paražinskaite and Lesedi Jacobs, 8-6.
The Govs went unbeaten in consolation matches Saturday morning. Ana Albertson beat Miami-Ohio’s Makenzie Myers, 6-4 6-4. Martina Paladini-Jennings knocked off Chattanooga’s Callie Billman, 6-4 6-3. Schmidt won a marathon of match against East Tennessee’s Maria Carvajal, 4-6 6-1 1-0(11). Finally, Morris rolled in her match, beating Butler’s Emily Neal, 6-4 6-1.
With the fall season wrapping up, the Governors will not be back in action in January, when Chattanooga comes to Clarksville to open up the spring slate. The Governors will enter the spring portion of the schedule looking to defend their Ohio Valley Conference title.
