While both offenses were held in check Tuesday, the two team’s pitching and defense shined, as the Black Team was held to three hits on the day — while hitting into three double plays – whereas on the other side, the Red Team collecting four hits and hit into two double plays.

All the game’s scoring came in the first inning, with the Black Team plating its lone run on a single by Kelsey Gross, scoring Brooke Pfefferle — who had reached base on an infield single and moving into scoring position on a wild pitch.

The Red Team answered back in their half of the first inning with their game’s only run, as Emily Harkleroad scored from third base on a double play ball off the bat of Shelby Harpe.

Both teams had other chances to break the deadlock, with the Black Team getting runners into scoring position in the second, third and sixth innings, while the Red Team had a runner get into scoring position in the fifth inning, but neither offense could come up with that final big hit to drive in the go-ahead run.

Harley Mullins went the distance for Team Black, giving up one run on four hits while striking out one; while Team Red’s Harpe also pitched a complete game, giving up one run on three hits, while walking four and striking out four.

The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Fall Softball World Series concludes tomorrow at Cathi Maynard Park-Cheryl Holt Field, with the first pitched scheduled for 3:45pm.
