Nashville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s tennis’ Anton Damberg and Christian Edison each won a match in the Consolation Singles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regional, Friday, at Vanderbilt.
The last two Governors to take the court on Friday, Damberg and Edison picked up the Governors only two wins of the day. Damberg knocked off Dayton’s Joe DeMarco, 6-1 6-3. Damberg will be matched up with Stefan Koruga of Tennessee State in the second round of the consolation draw.
Edison was the final Gov on the court, beating Wright State’s Param Pun, 6-3 6-2. In the second round, Northern Kentucky’s Jorge Rodriguez Agudo was unable to compete and Edison advanced to the third round by walkover. Edison will play the winner of Jan Vrba and Matthew DeMarco in the third round.
Jacob Lorino and Thiago Nogueira were the first two Govs on the court Friday. Lorino dropped his match to Wright State’s Vince Orlando, 6-3 6-4. Nogueira had the same result, falling to Butler’s Andrew Michael, 6-4 6-0.
Damberg and Edison will be back in action Saturday, from the Centennial Sportsplex. Edison will look to advance to the consolation quarterfinals with one more win, while Damberg will have to win twice more to make it to the quarters. Damberg will kick things off for the Govs tomorrow, with the first serve schedule for 10:30 a.m.
