Tampa, FL – The Nashville Predators picked up a huge road win tonight as they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2.
The Predators were led by their captain Roman Josi, who scored the game tying goal to send the game to overtime.
Nashville was without Filip Forsberg for the fifth straight game and Matt Duchene, injured on Thursday night, both with lower body injuries.
The Predators scored first at 14:24 of the opening period when Callie Jarnkrok beat Lightning goalie Curtis McElhinney for the early 1-0 lead.
Tampa Bay stormed back just 32 seconds into the second period when Steven Stamkos beat Juuse Saros to tie the game, 1-1.
The Lightning were all over the Predators in the second period, then Tyler Johnson gave the home team the lead when he scored at 9:25 and the score was 2-1.
Things were looking bleak for the Predators until the 14:47 mark of the final frame and that’s when Josi took a feed from Callie Jarnkrok and fired a bullet to even the score 2-2.
Into the overtime, the Predators couldn’t take advantage of a power play opportunity, but as the teams were 4 on 4, Josi stepped up again and fed Ryan Ellis for the shot that ended the game.
Ellis fired the game winner at 3:15 of the OT and the Predators get out of town with a massive road win.
Nashville returns to the Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday night to host the Chicago Blackhawks. Puck drop is 7:00pm
