Nashville Predators dominate the Detroit Red Wings 6-1

Nashville PredatorsDetroit, MI – The Nashville Predators totally dominated the Detroit Red Wings tonight, exploding for five goals in the second period, to get an important road win, 6-1.

The Red Wings have had Nashville’s number, winning 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two teams, but tonight, the Predators were able to chase starting goalie Jimmy Howard with a flurry of goals in the second period.

Detroit got on the board first at 2:35 of the opening period when Andreas Althanasiou took a pass from Filip Hronek to beat Pekka Rinne on the short side for the early 1-0 lead.  As it turns out, that would be the only marker of the night for the Red Wings.

The teams went to the first intermission with Detroit holding the one goal lead.

As the second period began, Nashville had the jump right out of the gate as Nick Bonino tied the game at the two minute mark when he won the face off then deflected a Dan Hamhuis shot into the night to bring the Predators even at 1-1.

Kyle Turris would get on the scoresheet at 5:32 of the second period, firing a wrist shot from the slot past Howard and that would put Nashville ahead, 2-1.

Colton Sissons then made it 3-1 at 6:34, with a snap shot past the blocker of Howard and the rout was on.  Then Matt Duchene would finally chase Howard from the game with a power play goal at 18:30 of the second period.  Howard was replaced by Jonathan Bernier.   Howard has been a nemesis of the Predators in goal for Detroit and up until tonight, was unbeatable.

The third period was not as exciting as the second as Detroit would have their chances, but the Red Wings were unable to break through Pekka Rinne who is 8-0-2 on the season.  Rinne only faced 24 shots on the night as the Predators fired 26 on net for the win.

Filip Forsberg would give us the final score of the night when he fired a shot from the top of the circle that beat Jonathan Bernier on the power play for the final, 6-1.

This was the first game of a four game road trip for the Predators who dropped their last two home games at the Bridgestone Arena.

Next up will be the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night, then it’s on to San Jose on Saturday and finally, Vancouver next Tuesday night.  The Predators return home to face the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, November 16th.
