The women’s contest tips at 5:30pm, with the men to follow after against Oakland City.

The Mighty Oaks will be Austin Peay State University’s home opener for the fourth straight season and fifth time since 2013-14.

For Governor fans, this will provide the last opportunity to see the guys at home for a while; following this contest, the APSU Govs will spend the next two weeks on the road, traveling to Western Kentucky (November 9th), Tulsa (November 16th) and Vanderbilt (November 20th) before returning home to face Southeastern Louisiana (November 23rd).

About the Oakland City Mighty Oaks

For the first time in a long time, Oakland City won’t be lining up under the watchful eye of Dr. Mike Sandifar, the longtime head coach of the program. In his place is first-year head man Lee Moore and his one year of head coaching experience at Toccoa College.

The Mighty Oaks also saw both Logan Worthington and Andrew Scott depart following last season; the duo combined to average more than 42 points per contest to help lead Oakland City to the 2019 Christian College National Invitational Tournament title.

Last Time Out Against Oakland City

Seven Govs reached double figures, led by Terry Taylor’s 21 points, and a suffocating Austin Peay State University defense held the Mighty Oaks to 31.5 percent shooting from the floor and just 14 second-half points in a 114-53 romp on November 6th in the Dunn Center. In addition to Taylor, Matheus Silveira needed just 17 minutes for a 10-point, 7-rebound effort against the Mighty Oaks in his Austin Peay State University debut.

Keep An Eye On

Austin Peay has won all nine of the previous meetings against Oakland City by an average of 34.0 points.

In two career meetings with the Mighty Oaks Taylor, the preseason Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, has averaged 17.0 points and 11.0 rebounds, hitting 66.7 percent (14-of-21) from the floor.

APSU’s grad transfers under head coach Matt Figger have historically gotten off to hot starts against Oakland City. Two years ago, Averyl Ugba had 17 points and 11 rebounds against the Mighty Oaks, while last season saw Jarrett Givens score 16 in 19 minutes.

November 5th represents the earliest regular-season opener in Austin Peay basketball history.

The Govs look to win back-to-back regular-season openers for the first time since 2012-13 and 2013-14. A win would also be Austin Peay’s fourth straight win in the home opener.

Taylor needs 15 points to pass Joe Sibbitt (1994-98) for 22nd all-time in career scoring by a Governor. He also needs nine rebounds to pass Will Triggs (2010-14) for 15th all-time.

Going Green

In August 2019, Austin Peay State University (APSU) completed the largest on-campus LED light bulb installation to date in the Winfield Dunn Center. APSU was awarded a Clean Tennessee Energy Grant (CTEG) from the Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation (TDEC) in the amount of $200,000. APSU matched this amount from the Sustainable Campus Fee (SCF), a student fee of $10 per semester for sustainable improvements.

On November 5th, local utilities including CDE, CEMC, and Clarksville Gas & Water, will host booths in the lobby to educate on how residents and students can be more sustainable and energy-efficient. Also, the first 500 patrons will get a reusable aluminum water bottle courtesy of the Sustainable Campus Fee.
