APSU Women's VolleyballMartin, TN – For a second-straight night, Austin Peay State University (APSU) volleyball freshman right side hitter Tegan Seyring posted a career high in kills, her 18-kill performance pushing the Govs past UT Martin in five sets (20-25, 16-25, 25-22, 27-25, 15-9), Friday night in Ohio Valley Conference action at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.

Austin Peay State University (10-18, 8-6 OVC) could not get its offense in gear in the opening two sets, recording more errors than kills offensively, and fell into a 2-0 deficit for a second-straight match.

But for the second consecutive outing, the Govs climbed back out of their deficit to tie the match and force a decisive fifth set.

Friday night, the match turned on a deft lineup change by head coach Taylor Mott, who put Seyring and defensive specialist Ginny Gerig Busse – normally the Govs libero – into the starting rotation to begin the third set. The move paid dividends as the Govs offense recovered to post 14 kills against three errors (.333 attack percentage) in the third then roared to a 20-kill outing in the fourth, hitting .395, to win in overtime.

In the fifth, the Governors gained control quickly with Seyring and sophomore Claire Darland combining each had two kills in a 4-1 opening burst.  Senior Karli Graham had back-to-back kills later in the frame, extending the Govs lead to 12-7 and they never looked back.

UT Martin (10-18, 6-7 OVC) controlled the opening two sets, scoring 17 kills in the first to pulled away late. The Skyhawks led the second set wire-to-wire as they Govs offense finished with 11 attack errors – four courtesy a UTM block. However, UTM hit just .179 and .205 in the third and fourth frames that turned the tide.

Seyring followed up her then-career high 17-kill night at Southeast Missouri, Thursday, with a career-best 18 kills against UT Martin. Junior outside hitter Brooke Moore finished with 12 kills and 13 digs and pushed past 1,000 career kills in the match. Graham chipped in 11 kills and seven blocks.

UTM’s Logan Wallick led all hitters with 19 kills. Justine Walker was limited to three kills but had nine blocks to pace the Skyhawks 13-block outing.
