On TikTok

“This is something that should trouble every parent who has a child who is using this app. TikTok is appearing to be China’s best detective with how they are going about collecting and using this information…. We cannot let novelty blind us.”

On the BROWSER Act

“Consumers are beginning to demand [privacy legislation] – especially moms. Women want to see some kind of guidelines put in statute. The BROWSER Act is a good starting point for basic privacy standards.

On Tuesday, Senator Blackburn told TikTok it must put an end to Chinese-linked efforts to collect data from American children in a letter to Alex Zhu of TikTok Inc.

Earlier this year, Senator Blackburn introduced the BROWSER Act to require communications and technology companies to provide users with clear and conspicuous notice of their privacy policies and the ability to opt-in to the collection of sensitive information and to opt-out of the collection of non-sensitive information.

It also prohibits these companies from denying their service to users who refuse to waive their privacy rights, empowers the Federal Trade Commission to enforce these rules, and ensures we have a consistent national law regarding online privacy.
