Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s basketball head coach David Midlick has added two players from the Peach State to join the Governors for the 2020-21 campaign.
Jayla Kimbrough and Kemia Ward both hail from the state of Georgia and will be joining the Governors in Clarksville next season.
The two signed their National Letters of Intent during the early signing period to officially join APSU coach Midlick and company next season.
Kemia Ward
A native of Powder Springs, Georgia, Ward spent time at McEachern HS before finishing her high school career at Holy Spirit Prep under coach Paul Belchur. Ward is a three-time state champion, twice leading McEachern to the GHSA 7A title, before leading Holy Spirit Prep to the GISA title.
The 6-2 forward averaged 20.5 points per game, on her way to becoming a First Team All-Staten and All-Region player. Ward was also named to the First Team All-State Offensive and Defensive teams.

Jayla Kimbrough
Hailing from Decatur, Georgia, Kimbrough played her high school career under coach Kathleen Richey-Walton at Southwest Dekalb HS. Kimbrough averaged 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists on her way to being named Miss Southwest Dekalb Basketball in 2019. An All-State performer in her junior season, Kimbrough has led the Panthers four region titles and a state runner up finish.
The 5-9 guard comes from an athletic family, her father played college football at Tennessee, while her mother played basketball at Tennessee for Pat Summitt. Her brother also played college football at Appalachian State. Kimbrough also competed in lacrosse and cross-country during her high school career.
