On the Protests in Hong Kong

On October 24th, Senator Blackburn joined a bipartisan group of Senate colleagues to introduce bipartisan legislation banning the U.S. export of crowd control equipment to the Hong Kong Police Force.
The legislation follows documented reports by human rights groups that U.S.-made police equipment has been used by Hong Kong police to violate the human rights of peaceful protesters during Hong Kong’s ongoing pro-democracy demonstrations.
Senator Blackburn also cosponsored S.1838, the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019, which recently passed through Committee and now lies before the full Senate, to assess whether political developments in Hong Kong justify changing Hong Kong’s unique treatment under U.S. law.
