About the Chattanooga Mocs

After finishing third in the Southern Conference a season ago, Chattanooga was tabbed to finish sixth in the SoCon Coaches Poll, but were picked to finish third — and received one first place vote — in the SoCon Media Poll. The Mocs are off to a 1-5 start this season, having lost to Purdue, Cincinnati, and No. 8 Louisville in their last three contests by an average of 32.3 points per game.

Chattanooga is led by Preseason All-Southern Conference selections Lakelyn Bouldin and Eboni Williams. Bouldin, a senior guard, leads the Mocs in scoring, averaging 11.2 points per game. Bouldin has gotten to the free-throw line 23 times this season, where she is a 78.3 per- cent shooter. The sophomore forward, Williams, is the Mocs third-leading scorer, averaging 10 points per game. Williams also leads the team in rebounding, averaging six rebounds per game.

Knoxville native Abbey Cornelius is Chattanooga’s second leading scorer, averaging 10.7 points per game. The sophomore forward is shooting 54% from the field, which ranks fourth in the SoCon and leads the Chattanooga team.

Series History

Austin Peay has matched up with Chattanooga 38 times in program history, which is more times than the Governors have played three of their current Ohio Valley Conference foes. From 1977 to 1997, the two team met on the hardwood in all but two seasons, despite never being in the same conference.

It’s been five seasons since the two teams last met, and the only current Governor that was a part of the last matchup with the Mocs is graduate assistant coach Falon Baker. Baker was a freshman on the 2014-15 team that made the trip to Chattanooga, but she did not see any action against the in the contest.

The last time Austin Peay and Chattanooga got together for a women’s basketball game was November 24th, 2014, at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga. The Governors jumped out to an early lead, taking a seven point edge into the halftime break. Early in the second half, it looked as though the Governors might pull away, extending their lead to 10 points three separate times.

But the Governors went ice cold, as Chattanooga went on a 23-2 run, and in seven minutes they turned a 10 point deficit into a 13 point lead. The Govs were unable to overcome the late Chattanooga run, and fell 65-76.

The Governors were led by senior Kristen Stainback, as the senior from Georgetown, Kentucky , went the distance, playing all 40 minutes. Stainback scored 21 points, shooting 64.3 percent from the floor to lead the Govs in scoring. Sophomore Tearra Banks added another 19 points, and hauled in seven rebounds. Junior guard Tiasha Gray was the final Governor in double-figures, as the Clarksville High School product posted 13 points.

What to watch for

The Governors rank 17th in the NCAA and lead the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring offense (85.4 ppg), averaging 12.2 more points per game than anybody else in the OVC.

Nationally the Governors rank third in three-pointers per game (12.2), second in total three-pointers made (61). The Govs have also attempted the 4th most three-point shots (166) in the NCAA this season.

The Governors full-court press forced a season-high 33 turnovers against Evansville, which allowed the Govs to score 43 points off turnovers.

Maggie Knowles erupted for a career-high 25 points against Evansville, scoring 20 points in the second half and knocking down seven triples in the contest.

The Governors make the trip to Chattanooga searching for their first win over the Mocs since 1997.
