APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s basketball team will close out a brief two-game homestand by hosting South Carolina State in a 7:00pm, Monday tip at the Dunn Center.

This contest already gets the Govs to the halfway point of the nonconference schedule; after Monday’s game, only two more home contests remain—against North Florida, December 7th, and McKendree, December 17th—before league play kicks back up in the Dunn Center.

It will be a homecoming, of sorts, for one South Carolina State assistant. Ed Stephens, a graduate transfer for the Govs in Austin Peay head coach Matt Figger‘s first season in Clarksville, returned to his alma mater as an assistant recruiting coordinator.

About the  South Carolina State Bulldogs

It’s been feast or famine for the Bulldogs through five games; in two wins, they’re averaging 91.0 points while they’re three losses have seen them average 54.3 points (and lose by an average of 32.0 points). South Carolina State gets its contributions from myriad places; seven Bulldogs are averaging more than 6.0 points, with Damani Applewhite’s 10.0 mark the only double-figure average.

The Bulldogs have struggled protecting the rim, with just three total blocked shots through five games. The second half has been unkind to South Carolina State; they’re being outscored by an average of 10.4 points over the final 20 minutes of a contest.

Last Time Out Against South Carolina State

This is the first meeting between the Govs and Bulldogs. In fact, it’s the first meeting between Austin Peay State University and any MEAC foe since the Govs squared off against Delaware State in the 2005 South Padre Island Tournament, taking home a 57-51 win.

Keep An Eye On

A win would make the Govs 3-0 to start the home slate for the second year in a row. It would be Austin Peay State University’s fifth straight home win dating back to last season, the third-longest home winning streak under head coach Matt Figger.

Freshman Jordyn Adams is averaging 18.7 points on 50.0 percent shooting (17-of-34) the last three games.

Over the last three games, the Govs are averaging 9.0 three-pointers per night, after combining for just nine threes in the first two games.

Through the first five games of his Austin Peay State University career, graduate transfer Reginald Gee is averaging 10.8 points on 42.9 percent (18-of-42) from the floor, including 1.8 threes per game on 47.4 percent (9-of-19) shooting.

Milestone Watch: Taylor needs 15 points to move into the top-15 all-time at 1,335 points. He needs three free-throws to pass Chris Porter-Bunton and five to pass Reggie Crenshaw on the all-time free-throws made list, six offensive boards to pass Crenshaw for fourth and five blocked shots to pass Marcel Williams and move into the top-10 all-time.
