The Department’s free pickup of storm-related yard debris and limbs actually is an expansion of its annual fall pickup that was scheduled from October 15th to early December.

The period to schedule a pickup closed December 2nd, but residents who have called in are on the list and will have their debris removed.

Because of the high volume of storm debris citywide, the removal process may extend through January.

The Street Department has outlined these ground rules for pickup:

  • Yard debris must be stacked or placed in cardboard boxes or biodegradable paper bags. Plastic bags will not be picked up.
  • The debris must be placed near the City of Clarksville’s right of way along the street. Tree limbs must be 6 feet or less in length.
  • Street Department crews will not pick up limbs where a commercial company has cut trees and cleared debris. These for-hire companies are responsible for removing the debris themselves, and residents should make sure that the companies agree to complete the full clearing and removal project.
  • The Street Department will not remove non-storm debris such as household trash and mattresses.

“Residents need to be patient and understand that the debris removal will take time because of the huge amount of damage caused by the storm,” Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts said. “Our crews are working hard and doing a steady job. It will take time, but we will get it cleaned up.”
