Marsha Blackburn Report: Advocating for Basic Privacy Safeguards

U.S. SenateWashington, D.C. – Almost every moment of our lives is conducted in the digital sphere, from sending emails to paying rent. Implementing basic privacy safeguards, like allowing users to opt in to the collection of sensitive data, puts Americans in control of their information.

“At the Senate Commerce hearing, I proposed my BROWSER Act as the best path to safeguarding consumers’ privacy,” states U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn.

Protecting Life At All Stages

Americans have made it clear — taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund abortion giants like Planned Parenthood. Some of my colleagues are attempting to funnel taxpayer dollars to fund abortion via government funding bill, while others are setting a new, reprehensible standard for what left-leaning America is willing to condone in the name of soulless politicking.

Tennesseans want their representatives speaking up and on the Senate floor, and I advocated for safeguarding the sanctity of life at all stages.

Surveillance State

Xinjiang is an autonomous region located in the far west corner of China, but in 1949 the Communists increased their control and took over the daily lives of the Uyghur people. Beijing has forced over one million Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities into forced labor “re-education camps” notorious for torture and human rights abuses.

It has also launched a comprehensive digital and physical surveillance program to monitor the Uyghurs. The Chinese government is even forcibly collecting blood samples with the goal of using DNA to improve facial recognition capabilities.

Despite this, tourists and corporate partners will once again flock to Beijing for the 2022 Olympic Games — even though they are fully aware that the Chinese government will track, record, and analyze their every move. On the Senate floor, I spoke out against the Chinese government’s actions and joined my colleagues in sending a letter to the Olympic committee urging them to ensure China observes human rights laws during the games.

ICYMI: News You Can Use

There is no line between China’s commercial sector and its military–they are one and the same. Watch my interview with Bloomberg TV below and learn how China is using this concentration of power to build an all-seeing surveillance state.

On Fox News, I highlighted how the American people are sick and tired of Washington’s partisan antics. While I remain focused on helping American workers succeed, my colleagues in the House are fixated on impeaching President Donald Trump.

The people of Hong Kong have risen up against their Communist Chinese oppressors. The United States stands with those who long for freedom; in a show of support, President Trump recently signed my PROTECT Act into law, which prohibits U.S. manufacturers from selling crowd control devices to China.

Stay In Touch

As a reminder, you can reach any of my six offices in Tennessee to share a concern or request assistance with a federal agency. The phone number for my Washington D.C. office is 202.224.3344, the same number previously used by Senators Bob Corker and Bill Frist.
