Clarksville, TN – As I enter the sixth week of my recovery from the accident, I’ve been filled with a lot of emotions. I’ve been brought to tears from not only the pain, but the love and support of all of you. When I began this journey, I never thought it would be as much of a blessing as it’s been, but, BIKERS ROCK!
I’ve noted many times, that I spent my career in a selfish, self serving business. Everybody was fake and phony. Backstabbing was the order of the day and only the strong survived. I feel proud that I was able to finish a rewarding broadcasting career, raise a family and retire before I was sixty.
I started hearing your stories of brotherhood from the beginning. Then I started meeting other bikers, riding with other bikers, getting to know other bikers and I realized that these people just aren’t who I thought they were.
I felt like I was past the age of being a “Harley” guy. I wasn’t in it for the “cool” factor. This motorcycle changed my life and put a spark into my life. It pulled me out of depression, but the most rewarding thing was, I made genuine friends. Brothers and sisters that cared, and weren’t interested in what they could get from me.
Along the way, you shared your stories with me of your accidents and recovery. Your pain and suffering. But most of all, your stories of how bikers rallied around you and pulled you back up. Nursed you back into the saddle and back on the road.
I’ve heard your stories of sickness and health. Loss of family and friends. But at the end of the day, you were surrounded by brothers and sisters who would never leave you on the side of the road.
This experience I’ve been through has been the worst of my life. Up until this, I’ve been relatively healthy and accident free. Blessed beyond what I deserve, but I continue to hear from my brothers TO. THIS. DAY!
Regardless of whether or not you ride, life is about lifting each other up. It’s about being civil and respectful. It’s about loving one another and doing the right thing. And in a world that’s inundated with nothing but bad news, corrupt government and lies and deceit, I can always count on bikers to rally around.
I’ve seen charitable events sponsored by bikers, supporting sick children, abused children, abused animals. I’ve seen bikers collecting toys for kids at Christmas. I’ve seen bikers rallying around kids who are bullied. I’ve seen bikers set examples in life that have an impact.
So, as I continue to recover and the pain goes away, I’m forever grateful for you and all the bikers of the world who understand what it means to take care of their own. To support each other, to love each other and to pull us up by the seat of our britches and get us back in the saddle again.
