Clarksville, TN – For the first time in Austin Peay State University (APSU) athletics department history, all 15 of its varsity programs recorded a 3.00 team grade-point average, pushing the department to a record 3.195 grade-point average for the Fall 2019 semester.
It is the fifth consecutive semester Austin Peay State University’s student-athletes have combined to post at least a 3.00 GPA and the sixth time in program history. It is the third time they have pushed past a 3.10 GPA.
The department saw a record 211 student-athletes receive academic recognition during the fall semester, with 105 named to the APSU Athletics Director’s Honor Roll and 106 named to the Austin Peay State University Dean’s List.

Established in 1990-91, the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll recognizes the outstanding academic accomplishments of Austin Peay State University student-athletes. To earn recognition student-athletes must be enrolled full time and achieve at least a 3.0 grade-point average for a semester.
Academic Highlights From Fall Semester
- 49 APSU Govs student-athletes posted a 4.0 GPA, accounting for 15 percent of all student-athletes.
- The APSU men’s cross country, men’s golf, men’s tennis and women’s tennis teams saw 100 percent of their student-athletes earn academic recognition (either AD’s Honor Roll or Dean’s List).
- The Governors football team posted a program record 3.022 grade-point average – breaching the 3.0 GPA mark for the first time.
- Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team finished the fall with a 3.04 GPA, the second time in head coach Matt Figger‘s tenure they have finished with a 3.0 GPA.
- The Governors men and women’s tennis teams posted the department’s highest team GPAs. The men’s team led all programs with a 3.821 GPA while the women’s team led all women’s programs with a 3.769 GPA.
- Current streak of semesters with a 3.0 GPA (beginning in Fall 2013): men’s cross country (2), women’s cross country (3), women’s soccer (13), volleyball (13), women’s basketball (3), baseball (7), men’s golf (7), women’s golf (13), track & field (3), softball (9), men’s tennis (13), women’s tennis (13), beach volleyball (4).
