Austin Peay State University Softball releases 2020 Schedule

APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – The 2020 Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball schedule is highlighted by a slate of 54 games, including matchups versus eight teams that saw postseason action in either the NCAA Tournament or National Invitational Softball Championship, as well as 21 home games at Cathi Maynard Park-Cheryl Holt Field.

The Governors open the 2019 season, February 8th-9th, with a three-game series at in-state rival Chattanooga. The series starts a four-week season-opening road swing for Austin Peay State University that encompasses 18 total games.

After the opening series with the Mocs, the Govs play in three road tournaments, beginning with the South Alabama Jaguar Challenge (February 14th-16th), followed by the 17th Annual Georgia Classic (February 21st-23rd) and then the Western Kentucky Holiday Inn Hilltopper Spring Fling (February 28th-March 1st).

Austin Peay State University opens its home slate on March 6th-8th by when it hosts the Governors Classic with Bradley, UMass Lowell and Purdue Fort Wayne visiting Cathi Maynard Park. Austin Peay State University continues the homestand with a home doubleheader versus Siena, March 11th.

The Governors close their in-season tournament participation at Samford’s tournament, March 14th-15th, before hosting Lipscomb in a single contest on March 18th, in their final pre-Ohio Valley Conference tune up.

APSU opens OVC play at home versus Tennessee Tech, March 21st, followed by a non-conference matchup at Evansville (March 24th) before closing the month with OVC road doubleheaders at Belmont and Tennessee State on March 25th-26th.

April will see the Govs open with six straight home OVC contests, beginning with SIU Edwardsville (April 4th), Eastern Illinois (April 5th) and Jacksonville State (April 10th), before heading to Murray State, April 14th, for a midweek OVC doubleheader.

Austin Peay State University closes out its home schedule with a five-game home stand, starting with OVC doubleheaders versus both Southeast Missouri and UT Martin on April 18th-19th before ending with a non-conference contest versus Middle Tennessee (April 21st).

The Govs wrap up their regular season with conference road doubleheaders at both Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky on April 25th-26th.

The 2020 OVC Softball Championship will be held for the fifth straight year at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, AL, on May 6th-9th.

Schedule Notes/Trends

The Governors Classic will be just the third home in-season tournament hosted by Austin Peay State University in their 35-year history and the first since 2011.

Chattanooga, Louisiana Tech, James Madison, Georgia, Lipscomb and Southeast Missouri each played in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

Middle Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky both played in the 2019 National Invitational Softball Championship.

Austin Peay State University’s 29 scheduled opponents posted an overall record of 785-733 in 2019 — a winning percentage of .517 – with 16 finishing with a winning record.

The Govs will play teams from 13 different NCAA Division I conferences this season, including three teams each from Conference USA (Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee Western Kentucky) and Missouri Valley Conference (Bradley, Evansville, Illinois State).

Austin Peay State University will have first-ever meeting versus three opponents this season — Central Michigan, James Madison and UMass Lowell.

The APSU Govs will face 10 teams (15 total games) that were ranked in the Top 100 in RPI in 2019, including four that finished in the Top 50 (James Madison, Georgia, Lipscomb, Louisiana Tech).
