Austin Peay State University Women’s Basketball falls to Southeast Missouri, 79-66

 

APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Trailing by double-digits in the fourth quarter, it looked as though the Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s basketball might be able to mount its third comeback in as many games when they cut the Southeast Missouri lead to four with 5:37 left to play; but this time the Govs came up just short, falling, 79-66, in the Dunn Center.

Tennessee Vols Football roars from behind late to beat Indiana at TaxSlayer Gator Bowl

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsJacksonville, FL – A late fourth-quarter charge, where the Vols scored 14 points in the final quarter propelled Tennessee Vols football team to a 23-22 win over Indiana in the 75th TaxSlayer Gator Bowl in TIAA Bank Stadium. 
 
With the victory, UT finishes the season 8-5 overall and 5-3 in the SEC to give second-year head coach Jeremy Pruitt his first bowl win. 
 
Freshman running back Eric Gray scored the game-tying touchdown on second and 10 after recovering an on-side kick to give the Vols the ball back at 46 yard line with 4:19 left on the clock.

Legal Aid SocietyNashville, TN – For Tennesseans who are dependent on public assistance benefits, a difference of $100.00 or $200.00 in their monthly budgets can dramatically affect the way they live.

If their monthly income drops by even a small amount, it can mean that bills don’t get paid and belts have to be tightened, if that’s even possible. In other words, it’s an emergency.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball defeats Missouri, 77-66

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – A dominant effort in the paint and an outstanding defensive second quarter helped the Tennessee Women’s basketball team give Lady Vols head coach Kellie Harper a victory in her Southeastern Conference debut Thursday, as No. 22/23 UT defeated Missouri, 77-66, to open conference play.

Tennessee (11-2, 1-0 SEC) held the Tigers (3-11, 0-1 SEC) to three field goals and just seven points in the second period. And the Lady Vols outscored Mizzou 44-22 in the paint during Thursday’s triumph.

The Lady Vols lived up to their reputation as one of the nation’s top-rebounding teams, out-rebounding the Tigers, 43-22. Tennessee pulled down 18 offensive boards and enjoyed a 19-4 edge in second-chance points.

TWRA, USFWS offer reward for Arrest in Shooting of Bald Eagle in West Tennessee

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRADecatur County, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), along with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are investigating a shooting of a bald eagle in West Tennessee. The injured eagle was reported on December 30th, 2019 around 3:00pm in Decatur County.  A $2,500 reward is being offered for an arrest.

The eagle was found off Martins Landing Road in Bath Springs. TWRA wildlife officer Brant Luker responded to the call and the bald eagle was transported alive, but injured to the North Madison Animal Hospital on December 31st.

Nashville Sounds announces Coaching Staff for 2020 Season

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Darwin Barney has been named the manager of the Nashville Sounds as announced today by the Texas Rangers. Barney is set to become the 30th manager in franchise history.

Barney, 34, will be making his professional coaching and managerial debut. The Oregon native played parts of eight seasons in the big leagues. He spent time with the Chicago Cubs (2010-14), Los Angeles Dodgers (2014-15) and the Toronto Blue Jays (2015-17).

Tennessee Titans face New England Patriots in Wild Card Game, Saturday

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans (9-7) travel to New England this week to face the AFC East champion Patriots (12-4) in an AFC wild card playoff game. Kickoff at Gillette Stadium (capacity 65,878) is scheduled for 8:15pm EST/7:15pm CST on Saturday, January 4th.

This will mark the second playoff game between the two clubs in a three-year span. The Titans traveled to New England for a divisional game following the 2017 campaign and were defeated by the eventual AFC champions. In three all-time playoff meetings between the two charter American Football League teams, the Patriots own a 2-1 advantage.
