APSU Track and Field kicks off 2020 at Ed Temple Classic

This annual event is renowned for attracting a host of area programs as one of the first post-Christmas events in the region.

This year, the Govs and Tigers will be joined by athletes from Alabama A&M, Cumberland, Fisk and Middle Tennessee.

All freshman Kenisha Phillips did in her Austin Peay State University debut was equal the program record in the 60m dash at the Saluki Fast Start; she and fellow record-holder Tymeitha Tolbert will eschew the 55m this week and instead take a crack at the 200m dash, alongside 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Freshman of the Year Kyra Wilder, who was runner-up in the event here a year ago.

Junior Sabrina Richman will look to reprise—or best—her runner-up finish in the 400m last season; she’s the second overall seed entering the event.

Sophomore throwers Jackie Verseman and Kori McDaniel are also seeded highly in both the shot put and weight throw. Verseman posted personal-bests in both events at the Carbondale event back in early December.

Lennex Walker and Maya Perry-Grimes, who both medaled in jumps at the 2019 OVC Outdoor Championships, will compete in the long and the triple jump on Sunday; Walker was fourth in the triple at the Saluki Fast Start to begin the indoor campaign.

Live results for Sunday’s meet will be available at CoachO.com; photo, video and a complete recap of the event will be available Sunday evening at LetsGoPeay.com.
