U.S. Representative Mark Green Opposes Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s War Powers Resolution

U.S. house of RepresentativesWashington, D.C. – Today, Thursday, January 9th, 2020, U.S. Representative Mark Green voted against Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s War Powers Resolution, which would prevent the President from engaging in hostilities against Iran.

Representative Green said, “American soldiers and diplomats are alive today because President Donald Trump took bold action to eliminate Qasem Soleimani, one of the world’s deadliest terrorists.”

“But while President Trump is protecting our country from those who would threaten us, Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats are working tirelessly to tie the President’s hands and hamper his ability to protect our men and women in the field,” stated Representative Green.

“Speaker Pelosi’s War Powers Resolution is an unnecessary political move that would dangerously limit the President’s ability to respond to threats in real time,” said Green. “For Democrats, this isn’t about authorization, this is about obstructing the President. Speaker Pelosi needs to stop the games and support our troops!”

A graduate of West Point, Representative Green served on two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. He was part of the mission to capture Saddam Hussein and interviewed Saddam Hussein for 6 hours on the night of his capture.
