Lamar Alexander Statement on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

U.S. SenateWashington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement to commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr., holiday this upcoming Monday:

“In the summer of 1963, I stood on the National Mall as an intern at the U.S. Department of Justice and listened to Dr. King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech. I especially remember the power of ‘not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.’ A lot has happened since that day, but there is still more to do. Dr. King dedicated his life to help ensure equality for all Americans, and as we honor him we should continue to strive to treat each other as equals who deserve the same opportunities.”
