“As part of Habitat International, we’re obligated to help support under resourced countries,” Executive Director Rob Selkow said. “670,000 children in Malawi have lost one or both parents to AIDS and our tithe will help provide homes for orphans and other vulnerable groups.”

The $10,000 donation from HFHMCTN will go directly to Habitat Malawi, which seeks to: build 1) decent shelter, improving the lives of orphans and other vulnerable groups of people; 2) water, sanitation and hygiene, or WASH, systems to improve the sanitation status and wellbeing of slum dwellers; and 3) disaster risk reduction and response projects to improve access to better and safer shelter for families living in areas prone to disasters.

According to Habitat for Humanity International, one hundred percent of affiliate tithe is transferred to Habitat national organizations to support the mission of serving families in need of shelter.

In the country of Malawi, several programs are already underway to better serve the population. As of 2019, the nation has constructed over 446 houses for vulnerable families. In addition to construction, programs are in place to increase resources for low-income families to help them obtain affordable housing already in place.

Habitat Malawi is also focused on HIV and malaria prevention training programs to improve health and wellness.
