Judy Molnar previously served as the University’s CIO, but she retired in December after four years of service to APSU.

The University conducted a national search to fill Austin Peay State University’s top IT position. In January, the University hosted forums with the three top candidates, before selecting Sanchez, former CIO for Midwestern State University Texas, for the position. He will begin his new role at Austin Peay State University on March 9th.

“It is an honor and a privilege to join Austin Peay State University and to serve the students, faculty and staff,” Sanchez said. “I look forward to working with the Austin Peay State University community to build collaborations and partnerships that will drive innovation and enable creative change across campus.”

Sanchez comes to APSU with nearly three decades of higher education IT experience. At Midwestern State University Texas, he provided leadership, oversight and strategic planning for the university’s information technology department.

Sanchez has extensive expertise related to all facets of information technology, including information security, networking, applications, user support, capital projects and academic technology.

Prior to his time at Midwestern State, Sanchez was employed at the University of New Mexico in an array of information technology positions. In his last position he was the acting director of Core IT Services.

In that position, he was responsible for leadership and oversight of academic computing, computer classrooms and labs, learning space design and development, media production, faculty evaluations, surveys and enterprise printing.

“It is Dr. Sanchez’s experience and his ability to move IT projects forward that will help him lead our outstanding information and technology team to the next level,” Mitch Robinson, APSU vice president for finance and administration, said.

“His increasing responsible positions at the University of New Mexico, and his most recent position as chief information officer at Midwestern State University, are an excellent fit for our campus,” stated Robinson.

“We had an outstanding applicant pool, which made the work of our search committee much more challenging. Dr. Mickey Hepner was the search committee chair and deserves praise for his remarkable work and that of an exceptional committee to find Dr. Sanchez, the next leader for information technology.”

Sanchez earned his Doctor of Education, with a concentration in educational leadership, from the University of New Mexico in 2012. He received his Master of Arts in organizational learning and instructional technology in 1999 and his Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice (pre-law) in 1991 from that same institution.
