Clarksville, TN – The beat goes on for the Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s tennis, as the Governors picked up their seventh-straight win, dispatching Carson-Newman, 6-1, Friday at the Governors Tennis Center.
It was another hot-start to the match for the Govs, who won the doubles point for the sixth-straight match.
Danielle Morris and Jana Leder got things started in the No. 1 doubles matching, picking up their third straight win to give Austin Peay State University an early advantage.
The Governors clinched the doubles point in the No. 3 matchup, with Ana Albertson and Sarah Heckel knocking off the No. 3 pairing from Carson-Newman to improve to 6-0 this spring as a duo. In the final doubles match, Fabienne Schmidt and Aleks Topalovic picked up a win in the No. 2 doubles position, improving their winning streak as a duo to six.
Leading 1-0 entering singles play, the Govs made it 3-0 quickly as Leder and Topalovic picked up wins in straight sets in the No. 2 and No. 4 positions. Needing just one more point to clinch the match, Martina Paladini-Jennings posted a convincing win in the No. 3 position to claim the match for Austin Peay State University.
With three singles matches left to settle the score, Morris and Heckel picked up wins in the No. 1 and No. 5 singles spots, putting Austin Peay State University up 6-0. In the final singles match of the afternoon, Albertson dropped her match in the No. 6 singles position, as the Govs picked up their seventh-straight win and improved 7-1 this season.
