Austin Peay State University Men’s Golf to play in President’s Day Match Play Challenge, Tuesday

APSU Men's GolfMiami, FL – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s golf team will vie for a championship, Tuesday, when the Govs square off against Ohio Valley Conference foe Belmont in the championship match of the 2020 President’s Day Match Play Challenge on the Player’s Course at The Club at Weston Hills.

Austin Peay State University defeated a pair of OVC opponents on the opening day of play in Eastern Kentucky (6.5-0.5) and Morehead State (3.5-2.5) in a strong performance indicating that the APSU Govs will be in good shape if they were to make the final day of competition at the 2020 OVC Men’s Golf Championships, with its match play component.

Austin Lancaster won both his matches, taking a 4&2 win against Eastern Kentucky’s Tyler Lippert and a dominant 6&5 triumph against Morehead State’s Zac Viminitz. Garrett Whitfield also picked up two wins, at 3&2 against Eastern Kentucky’s Willis Gaer and 2Up on Morehead State’s Jon Kozier.

After halving his first match against Eastern Kentucky’s Markus Lindgren, Michael Busse picked up a huge 2Up win against Joe Muschong in the afternoon match. Chase Korte halved his afternoon match against Morehead State’s Cooper Collins after winning the morning competition against Eastern Kentucky’s Andreas Nielsen.

Also in the morning triumph, Micah Knisley took a 1Up win on Eastern Kentucky’s Pablo Carrascosa, while Jay Fox took down Axel Nordborg in a 2&1 triumph.

The championship match kicks off 8:04am (CT) on the first tee against Belmont, which dispatched Saint Bonaventure in a clean sweep to open play and held on for a 3.5-2.5 win against Florida Gulf Coast in the second round.
