APSU Men’s Golf falls to Belmont in tiebreaker at President’s Day Match Play Challenge

APSU Men's GolfMiami, FL – It took a tiebreaker for the Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s golf team to finally be cut down at the President’s Day Match Play Challenge, hosted by George Washington, but the Govs ultimately fell agonizingly short at The Club at Weston Hills on the Players Course.

When the score falls 3-3 as it did Tuesday, the win goes to whichever team wins the most holes through 18. Tuesday, that honor went to Belmont—by one hole—over the Govs.

Governor victories were earned by Jay Fox and Micah Knisley. Fox won 2-up, Knisley 1-up, to give both a pair of wins on the week. After picking up two wins Monday, Garrett Whitfield halved his match against Alex Whitehead to remain unbeaten on the week, as did Michael Busse against Bogle LaRue.

However, by the slimmest of margins, Belmont was the victor—both Bruin victories were 2-up.

The Govs took runner-up honors in an OVC-heavy event at the top; Belmont won the event, with Morehead State, which Austin Peay State University defeated Monday afternoon. Eastern Kentucky took seventh.

Next Up For APSU Men’s Golf

The Austin Peay State University men’s golf team will get the spring rolling from a stroke play point of view at the Auburn Invitational presented by Jason Dufner, March 8th-10th, in Auburn, Alabama.
