Clarksville, TN – After a slow start to the spring season, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s tennis has posted back-to-back wins, after sweeping Cumberland, 7-0, Tuesday at the Governors Tennis Center.
It didn’t take the Governors long to set the tone in this match, posting a pair of 6-2 wins in doubles play to claim the doubles points.
Leading 1-0 at the start of singles play, Edison picked up the Govs second point of the day, winning a lopsided match in the No. 1 position. Andrersson was the second Governor on the board, posting a decisive win in the No. 4 position.
Needing just one point to put the match on ice, Gold won his first set in a tiebreaker, before dispatching the No. 3 player from Cumberland, 6-1, in the second set to give the Govs a 4-0 advantage.
With three singles matches still left to play, the Governors made sure to leave no doubt. Damberg and Sanders were the next to matches on the board, as the pair of Govs picked up wins in the No. 2 and No. 6 singles positions.
In the final singles match of the day, Lorino won his first set, before the second went to a tiebreak. In the tiebreaker, Lorino dominated, winning 7-0 to wrap up the Govs first 7-0 sweep of the season.
