The Govs took care of business against SIUE in their last meeting in the Dunn Center, to post back-to-back wins against SIUE for the first time since 2014.

Another win against the Cougars would mark the first time in program history the Govs have won three-straight games against SIUE and would help the Governors take another step towards locking up their spot in the Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Championship.

This will be the second time this season that the Governors have been featured in an Education Day game on the road. Last time, the Govs beat Tennessee State, 87-55, at the Gentry Center.

About the SIU Edwardsville Cougars

The Cougars of SIU Edwardsville come off a season that saw them finish in ninth place in the Ohio Valley Conference, missing the OVC Women’s Basketball Championship by just one spot. This year the Cougars were tabbed to finish ninth in the OVC Coaches and SID Preseason Poll, and they were picked to finish eighth in the OVC Media Preseason Poll.

After starting the season 3-10, the Cougars are currently on a 12 -game losing streak and sit at the bottom of the OVC standings.

Averaging just 56.9 points per game, SIUE sits at the bottom of the OVC in scoring offense. Because the Cougars allow 70 points per game, they own a scoring margin of minus 13.1, which ranks 11th in the conference.

Shooting 35.6 percent from the floor, SIUE sits in 11th place in the OVC in field goal percentage. The Cougars sit in last place in the conference in three-point percentage (23.4%) and free-throw percentage (60.9%).

With just 93 made three-pointers this season, SIUE has made the fewest triples in the OVC. They join Tennessee State (97 made 3FG) as the only teams in the league to have not made triple-digit threes at this point in the season.

SIUE ranks second in the OVC in offensive rebounding, averaging 14.9 offensive rebounds per game. The Cougars are led on the offensive class by Allie Troeckler, who averages 3 offensive rebounds per game, which is good for third-best in the conference.

Troeckler leads SIUE on the offensive end, averaging 10.6 points per game — good for 19th best in the league. Troeckler also ranks fourth in the OVC in field goal percentage (48.8), 11th in steals (1.7 per game), and 13th in rebounding (6.5 per game).

Series History

This is the 21st meeting in a series that dates back to 2008; the Governors trail in the all-time series 6-14, but have won the last two meetings. If Austin Peay State University can pick up its third-straight win over SIUE, it will be the longest winning streak against the Cougars in program history.

Thursday’s contest will be played in the Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville, Illinois, where the Governors have not won since January 20th, 2-14.

Austin Peay State University welcomed SIUE to the Dunn Center for a Jan. 30 contest, which saw the Governors pick up a 74-61 win over the Cougars.

The Governors were led by Brandi Ferby, who scored a game-high 18 points off of the bench. Ferby also led the Governors with five assists and a trio of three-pointers, while shooting 83 percent from the floor in the contest. Freshman Ella Sawyer did it all for the Governors, posting 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots, and a steal in the contest.

Kaitlin Lee led the way for the Cougars, scoring 11 points and hauling in eight rebounds. Mikia Keith and Zaria Whitlock each chipped in eight points for the Cougars, while Keith also pulled down seven rebounds.

The Governors forced SIUE to turn the ball over 28 times in the last meeting, while only turning the ball over 13 times. The Govs outscored the Cougars 37-5 on points off turnovers, which proved to be the difference in the game.

What To Watch For

After picking up a pair of wins against Murray State and Eastern Kentucky last week, Austin Peay will look to post three-straight OVC wins for the first time this season.

The Govs have not won three-straight games since a four-game winning streak (December 14th to December 29th) to wrap up the non-conference schedule.

A win would extend the Governors winning streak against SIUE to three games, which would be the longest in program history against the Cougars.

The Governors have not won a game on the road at the Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville since a 77-67 win on January 20th, 2014.

The Governors are set to play their second 11:00am game of the season, last time the Govs played a morning tip they routed Tennessee State, 87-55, led by a career-high 15 points and 9 rebounds from D’Shara Booker.

Nationally, Austin Peay State University ranks 13th in three-point field goals made per game (8.7), 13th in three-point field goals made (217), and seventh in three-point field goals attempted (694).

The APSU Govs defense is averaging 21 turnovers forced per game, which ranks 18th in the country and leads the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Governors lead the OVC with a plus 4.80 turnover margin and are the only team in the conference that has forced more than 475 turnovers this season.

The APSU Govs are the second team in program history to attempt 600-plus three-pointers in a season, they are the third team in program history to make 200-plus three-pointers in a season.

Maggie Knowles is shooting 44.4 percent from three-point range this season, which leads the OVC and ranks 10th in the NCAA. She currently is the Austin Peay State University career three-point percentage
