Major League Soccer suspends 2020 season for 30 days due to Coronavirus

 

Major League SoccerNew York, NY – Major League Soccer has suspended all games, effective immediately, for 30 days, the league announced Thursday, March 12th, 2020 as it continues to assess the impact of COVID-19 (the coronavirus).

The MLS announcement comes in the wake of the NBA suspending its season on Wednesday night. Prior to the suspension of the MLS season, two MLS matches scheduled for March 21st had already been postponed in Seattle and San Jose as measures are taken to contain COVID-19, which to date has seen over 1,000 confirmed cases in the United States.

Major League Baseball to delay Opening Day at least 2 weeks, Spring Training games cancelled

 

Major League BaseballNew York, NY – Major League Baseball has cancelled the remainder of its Spring Training games, also announcing that the start of the 2020 regular season will be delayed by at least two weeks due to the national emergency created by the coronavirus pandemic.

The decision was announced following a call with all 30 Clubs and after consultation with the Major League Baseball Players Association. Opening Day was originally scheduled for Thursday, March 26th, 2020.

Minor League Baseball to delay start of 2020 Season

“In light of the current coronavirus outbreak, and after consultation with medical professionals and our partners at Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball will delay the start of the 2020 Championship Season. Nashville Sounds announce Vanderbilt Baseball Games cancelled at First Horizon Park

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club regrets to announce today the Vanderbilt vs. Belmont game on March 17th and Vanderbilt vs. Lipscomb game on March 24th to be played at First Horizon Park have been cancelled due to damages sustained from the tornado this past week.

“We’re very disappointed to not be able to host these two events at First Horizon Park in 2020,” said Sounds General Manager Adam Nuse. “We fully support these brilliant baseball programs, but at this time our primary focus is to have First Horizon Park functioning as best as we can for Opening Day on April 9th.”
