Bikers Who Care annual Toy Run set for September 19th

Bikers Who CareClarksville, TN – On Monday, August 10th, 2020, Bikers Who Care Director Bill Langford announced that this year’s BWC Toy Run will take place Saturday, September 19th, 2020.

Riders are encouraged to arrive at Liberty Park at 11:00am. They will depart for their scenic journey through Clarksville at 1:00pm and arrive at Appleton Harley-Davidson about 30 minutes later.

“This is our 39th annual Toy Run,” Langford said. “Everything has changed for this one, so instead of a three-day party, this will be a one-day function. Last year, we had 1,200 motorcycles, with each rider carrying two or three toys. Spectators brought toys as well, allowing us to collect thousands of toys for local children.

“Clarksville Fire Rescue has always helped us out, and every year we fill two of their big rigs with toys. All the toys we collect are presented to The Salvation Army and local churches, then distributed to local families who are in need of a little help during the holiday season.”

Langford says COVID-19 Coronavirus has forced BWC to cancel all its 2020 fundraising events so far, including. Brewfest, and now, the legendary Toy Run Party.

“We haven’t been able to raise money for our kids charities this year,” Langford said. “But, Toy Run is just too important to these kids. We take care of the kids, that’s what BWC is all about.”

Riders are asked to assemble at Liberty Park, near the marina at 11:00am. At 1:00pm Riders will exit the park, going left on TN Highway 48, left on Riverside Drive, right on North Second Street through Downtown Clarksville, left on Madison Street, and right onto 41-A Bypass. The ride will conclude at Appleton Harley-Davidson.

“There is a large parking area behind the building,” Langford said. “We think we’ll have enough room for all the motorcycles. Cars that are coming to the event will park in a designated grassy area near the property. We expect a similar turnout as last year. We’re proud and happy to be doing this, we haven’t missed a Toy Run in 39 years.

“Riding motorcycles is pretty safe as far as social distancing goes. Everyone is encouraged to use masks, social-distance, whatever makes them feel safe.”

Langford says that once everyone arrives at Appleton’s, there will be a couple of hours of food and beverage sales, and live music. BWC hopes to host the Miss Toy Run 2020 competition as well.

“Our goal is to do our part for the kids, have some fun for a couple of hours, and everyone get home safe,” Langford said. “The kids need the toys, regardless if life is back to normal or not. That’s true this year more than ever. Who knows, we may have more motorcycles this year because of everything that’s going on.

“We’re excited to ride through downtown, and rattle some windows. There will be many beautiful places along the route to watch as 1,000 or more motorcycles roll through this great city. And, we especially want to thank Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts for helping us put this together on very short notice.”
